The colour yellow is the colour of the mind and is associated with intelligence. This colour relates to acquired knowledge. It is the colour which resonates with the left or logic side of the brain stimulating our mental faculties and creating mental agility and perception. Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, the colour psychology of yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. In the meaning of colour, yellow inspires original thought and inquisitiveness. Yellow is creative from a mental aspect, the colour of new ideas, helping us to find new ways of doing things. Yellow is the best colour to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism. Yellow helps us focus, study and recall information, this ca be useful during exam times.

Our favourite yellow from the DULUX range are:

Dulux Easter Morn 3 (48YY77/529), Dulux Buttercup Fool 1 (45YY64/787), Dulux Golden Fern 2 (29YY66/537)

The colour yellow can be anxiety producing as it is fast moving and can cause us to feel agitated therefore we would recommend to use it in a smaller amounts, particularly on a piece of furniture, a painting or print or a cushion. Yellow is the most highly visible of all colours which is why it is used for pedestrian crossings. Take note that yellow is a good colour to be used for way finding and signage. We would not recommend using too much yellow in elderly houses as many older people don’t respond well to large amounts of yellow because it vibrates too fast for them. Introduce green or a soft orange instead.
