Rathmichael Residence – Progress Week 1

Rathmichael Residence – Progress Week 1

The start of a new year brought the start of another new project for the team and KLD.

Rathmichael Residence is an exciting reconfiguration and extension of a large residential project in collaboration with Cantrell & Crowley Architects. The first floor of the existing bungalow is being reconfigured and a second storey is being added. Take a look at the some before photos below.

The before photos really show you how dark the space was before, with heavy wood and strong colours dominating both the interior and the exterior of the property.  The design aims to open up the space bringing in the natural light, maximising the circulation and the view.

All this joinery has now been stripped out and we have a shell to start our build from.

The family home will feature open plan living spaces, double height ceilings, cosy nooks and beautiful tiling and joinery details to name but a few.. The eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional design makes for an exciting interior from both a spatial layout and materials perspective. It is one we are very much looking forward to seeing develop over the coming months, and will be sharing snippets of all the stunning samples and details with you along the way.

But for the moment.. here are some photos of week one’s progress as the site got stripped out for works to begin! It always surprises me how quickly a house can be completely gutted and a blank canvas for construction to begin and our designs to start taking shape.

Après-Ski Pop-Up Bar – Work in progress

First day of work at the Apres-Ski Pop-up bar @ the I BELIEVE Christmas Market

So much preparation work to be done with all hands on deck! The focus today has been on clearing the space, collecting deliveries, organising, unpacking, and having Christmas fun.

Here is a look at the Après-ski pop up bar space on Monday morning, soon to be transformed into a Scandinavian wonderland open to all on Friday.

Protective carpet is being pulled back to expose the fantastic concrete floor below, while a steady flow of deliverymen arrive with early Christmas gifts for us all.

Like any Christmas morning, there is a fair share of unwrapping and complicated assembly to be done. Our first big delivery was our stools, 184 to be precise, each one to be individually put together by our drafted in team. With motivation (and Christmas tune or two), the team chipped away at dozens of stools and without knowing it, we were almost done.

With Tuesday came more deliveries to our Christmas village site. Holly, sheepskins, mirrors, and these fabulous wooden animal heads we are infatuated with.

Killian, Becky and Dax posted up with some of the 184 stools.

Two more days until the Christmas season celebrations kick off at the Après-ski pop-up bar and its Scandinavian atmosphere.

Ideal home – Week 1

Ideal Home – Week 1

As you all know, this year, Kingston Lafferty Design are designing the showhouse for the DFS Ideal Home Show at the RDS, starting on October 23rd.
From initial floor layouts, to moodboards and final conception, we have been working away behind the scenes for weeks to prepare and organize for this event. Last Friday, Roisin, Amy and I went to our first site visit to see the build in progress.

Hard to imagine now but in just a few days, a beautiful showhouse will take shape and thousands of people will visit it.

It was a speedy process that saw these 2D plans which had been poured over for weeks suddenly come to life. A hectic morning saw all sorts of trades coming together, working to make this show home a reality.

The walls are up and the spaces are really beginning to take shape. We talked through all the details with everyone working on site ensuring all was set to stay on schedule.

Can’t wait for the flooring and painting to start and see our vision come to life! Scrawling paint colour names across their intended walls was the last act before packing things up and heading back to the office… heres hoping to see lovely finished walls in a stunning selection of colours by Color Trend.

More progress coming soon, as our exciting build continues…

Luxury Office Design

Many things have been changing over the past few months at KLD and many projects have been going on behind the scenes. One in particular is a large, luxury office design that is currently being developed. High end design is something we feel very passionate about. It transfers across residential and commercial interiors with a key emphasis on quality, detailing and overall experience.

Fusing a concept of sophisticated industrialism with luxury and raw materials, our luxury office design encompasses luxury, style and industrialism…. with playful and exciting elements throughout.

The office accommodates full time staff, visiting international staff and also important clients and guests, so the environment needs to appeal to all of these. Spatially the environment should create positive and unexpected experiences for all who enter, offering a sense of open plan, whilst also providing privacy.

London Residence – A Small Job with Big Promise!
London Residence
We had a complete blank canvas on site this morning for the beginning of our London Residence, residential project. After a complete strip out of the existing ground floor, including the kitchen and living room, our team was ready to get started…
This project, for a vibrant young couple in London Fields, was full of exciting design potential right from the start. The couple were very open to making a statement with their home and wanted to inject their personality into the space as much as possible.
Our design concept was heavily influenced by the bustling, creative area of Hackney in London, where the project is located.  We have sought to translate that same buzz from the local bars and cafes into the project to create an exciting and original space for them to live and entertain in.
We have been patiently waiting over Christmas for this one to start, can’t wait to see how the design, unfolds over the coming weeks…
