Paint it Black and White

Black and white interiors make a dramatic and bold statement.

They are the most basic colors on the chromatic scale as they are neutral and they work with any other tone, material or fabric. Yet combined together, they create a well-balanced and powerful environment. Monochrome brings contrast, and add depth and elegance.

Use a combination of black and white tiles to create a timeless and chic bathroom. Mix metal furniture with white fabrics and upholstery to add an industrial yet warm athmosphere to a living room. Add black sanitary ware to give a contemporary feeling to a bathroom and make it contrast with the white subway backsplash.

For our Ideal Home showhouse, we used black and white to design a quirky yet sophisticated kitchen using black timber and white subway tiles to frame it. We also used monochromes for the bathroom for a timeless interior.

WHITE

The meaning of the colour white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. White is colour at its most complete and pure, the colour of perfection. In colour psychology white is the colour of new beginnings. It is the blank canvas waiting to be written upon. While white isn’t stimulating to the senses, it opens the way for the creation of anything the mind can conceive. White contains an equal balance of all the colours of the spectrum, representing both the positive and negative aspects of all colours. The colour white is cleanliness personified the ultimate in purity. White is a colour of protection and encouragement, offering a sense of peace and calm, comfort and hope, it can help alleviate emotional upset.

Our favourite White DULUX range:

Dulux Golden Jasmine 3 (10YY83/014), Dulux Chiffon White 1 (30GY76/017), Dulux Chalky White 1 (10RR73/023)

From the variations of the colour white we would recommend in particular an Off-White shade for interior walls such as Dulux Golden Jasmine 3, Dulux Chiffon White 1 or Dulux Chalky White 1. It helps to soften the overall look while being bright and pure. White colour has a wide range of use from kitchen cabinets, appliances, chairs or lighting as it sits nicely with any colour from the colour spectrum. Too much white can be cold, isolating and empty. It implies a feeling of sterility and therefore we would recommend using it in combination with other colours unless you are aiming for the Scandinavian or monochrome design.
