Before & After: London Residence

The brief for this residential project in London was to create a cooking/dining experience that felt like a buzzing restaurant. The aim of the kitchen/dining area design was to add some excitement, fun and design flair within the existing walls of the house, so we divided the large space into three key areas: the main kitchen wall, ribboning island and a dining area.

We brought those same aspects into the living space with pops of colour, punchy patterns and mimicked the ladder from the kitchen into the living room storage wall.

INSPIRATION: POP OF TYPOGRAPHY

At KLD, we believe that the most vital aspects of design are in the details. We love including wall art in our designs and especially admire the expressive freedom that accompanies typography pieces.

The use of typography as décor became increasingly popular in recent years, with the introduction of gallery walls. However, these creative prints also look great standing on their own, for a more minimal approach.

Whether it be a pop of optimism to brighten up a room, or a quote from a favourite artist, typography prints allow your personality to shine in a fun and sophisticated way.

A bright pink and orange framed print creates a nice contrast to the muted kitchen wall of our London residence,

A great alternative to hanging a poster is to lean it against a wall, creating a tranquil atmosphere paired with potted greenery and your favourite trinkets! We loved this travel print paired with the dark green hues at our South Circular Road Residence.

Here, the warm tones of the room are reflected in the ode to John Lennon, and the composition of the print next to the layered shelves makes for an interesting focal point.

The minimal aesthetic of this dining room is captured perfectly by the Andy Warhol print, reminiscent of  modernity and simplicity, while remaining playful in the print’s off-center layout.

Prints don’t only come in frames – try a fabric print to bring an airy and relaxing element of surprise to your home. And we can’t exclude how beautiful the dusty pink tones look in this interior!

The details really tie together the over all design for this vibrant young couple in the London Fields area of London. They wanted to create a home that expressed their character and strike a balance between sophistication and fun, the perfect place for family as well as entertaining friends.

London Residence – Sneak Peek

London Residence

It’s been all go on site in London this week and our design starting to take shape! From patterned tiles to chevron flooring, bespoke joinery to marble slabs and ceiling roses to copper details, it is really turning into the exciting and original living and entertainment space we wanted to create.

With the kitchen being fitted and second fix electrical on site, we are nearly there! We don’t want to give too much away just yet, but here is a sneak peek at some of the details from this weeks developments..

Our love affair with marble is still in full here swing at KLD after a visit to The Granite and Marble Company to select a marble slab for the kitchen splash back. The yard was so full of unequally beautiful slabs of granite and marble we wanted to use them all,

Marble, marble, marble
In the end we fell for a stunning piece of Carrara Marble. Now we just have to wait for it to arrive!

London Residence – A Small Job with Big Promise!
London Residence
We had a complete blank canvas on site this morning for the beginning of our London Residence, residential project. After a complete strip out of the existing ground floor, including the kitchen and living room, our team was ready to get started…
This project, for a vibrant young couple in London Fields, was full of exciting design potential right from the start. The couple were very open to making a statement with their home and wanted to inject their personality into the space as much as possible.
Our design concept was heavily influenced by the bustling, creative area of Hackney in London, where the project is located.  We have sought to translate that same buzz from the local bars and cafes into the project to create an exciting and original space for them to live and entertain in.
We have been patiently waiting over Christmas for this one to start, can’t wait to see how the design, unfolds over the coming weeks…
