Savoy Cork Winter Wonderland

Continuing on in the festive spirit, Kingston Lafferty Design have just finished transforming the Savoy Theatre into a winter wonderland, 3D snowflakes galore! We went down to Cork last week to get started on the Savoys 3 main bars.Continuing on from the oversized decorations from Lost Society, we took on the theme of a winter wonderland with giant, oversized, snowflakes. Cool blues and icy white snowflakes twist and turn above the bars.

We designed the snowflakes, drew them up on CAD and then got them laser cut out of mdf sheets. It was pretty cool to see them so perfectly cut out. We also cut out 12 different snow flakes out of mounting board to add a bit of variety…then packed up the car and headed on a little adventure down to Cork!

With ceilings 6 metres high, it was a fun packed three days, but with some fantastic helpers, friendly Cork banter, a drill and some pretty high scaffolding, we successfully completed the three bars! Check out the pictures below and pop into the Savoy over Christmas if you are down in Cork!

Lost Society Christmas Installation

We have just completed a Christmas installation for Lost Society Dublin. It was tough work but lots of fun and definitely got us feeling festive!! The brief was to create a high impact installation at the two main bars within the club. The building itself is very impressive both in scale and aesthetic so it was very important that the design held its own and grabbed people’s attention straight away. We chose to use over sized, giant props throughout that we made by hand.

The ground floor bar is the first area you experience within Lost Society. It was really important that it had a wow factor as well as being a little bit crazy and fun! This bar became ‘The Candy Cane Bar’. Fusing giant hanging candy canes with over sized, cellophane wrapped sweets and lollipops, it brings out the inner kid in everyone! And if you feel like a real candy cane, there are over 600 real candy canes displayed in gift wrapped jars to get you feeling festive!

Upstairs in the main Georgian bar, we wanted to focus on the main bar display area. Located in the most beautifully christmassy setting of the powerscourt townhouse, between two large Georgian windows, we decided to package the bar display as a giant ripped open Christmas present; a gift to the public from lost society with love. We created a structure to wrap paper, giant bows and of course a giant Christmas tag from lost society.

See the journey of the handmade props, the initial design concept, followed by the finished product, and check it out in the flesh over Christmas if you get the chance!

The sweets…..with quite a long way to go! step 1: foam cylinder painted with glue, step 2: spray paint, step 3: draw out pattern, step 4: paint and step 5: wrap with cellophane!
