Lovers Walk is a jewel lovers paradise. Nestled into the cliffs of Cork in Ireland, this 70’s home oozes boldness and bravery in a showstopping way. It is a celebration of materiality, tactility and intricate detailing. A family home oozing with personality, individuality and design essence.
The starting point of the design was the central 70’s oak, modular stair core which the original architects designed. This striking element informed the design for the rest of the house. Merging the 70’s structure and material with the surrounding landscape, we sought to connect a sense of nostalgia and landscape throughout each room. The rich tones and veins of the selected marbles link to the richness of the landscape, emulating the moss and mature trees on all sides. Retro elements were incorporated to echo the 70’s structure, burl wood and strong terrazzo to name a few. Materials were used in a balanced yet contrasting way to merge a sense of masculinity and femininity, raw and polished. Every space was deliberately framed with a unique portal to enhance the view and transition into each space, whether timber, marble, tiles or mirror. There is a stylised and dramatic feel running through the home from the moment you step inside which, the clients say, provides a surprising sense of calm, and homeliness…. A wonderland to live in”.
