Restaurant and Bar Design Awards 2018

We are very excited to be shortlisted for the Restaurant and Bar Awards 2018 for the Pot Bellied Pig in Rathmines.

Check out the details here.

Design Brief

The brief was to create a fun, exciting, vibrant café space to tie in with the branding and name while equally appealing to the broad demographic of the urban Rathmines area. The creative concept KLD presented was inspired by the pig and focussed on catering to a young, professional, brunch market. The design required a cool aesthetic & maximum capacity for covers, providing both takeaway and eat in options, as well as an outdoor area to enjoy.

Challenges

The main design challenge was creating multiple experiences in a small long narrow space with limited natural light. We had to achieve an intricate level of detail on a tight budget, creating impact whilst appealing to a broad market.  We needed to include visually arresting and aesthetically pleasing porcine features to the space. To achieve maximum functionality, we had to think creatively and custom designed all furniture within the space.

Results

A feast of colours, shapes and design, the Pot Bellied Pig charms customers in what is an overcrowded market. A pig-snout inspired innovative tube installation frames the café while deliberately contrasting materials, including geometric black and white prints, tiles, brass, velvets, leather and lush planting add flavour and excitement throughout. A mixture of banquettes style and sizes cosy seating welcome individual diners and groups alike.
